Fallkniven H1zCoS

The Fallkniven H1 knife is a very handy knife with impressive durability. The H1 is our first true hunting knife and is steeped in the history of classic Nordic knifemaking. Due to this heritage, the H1 lacks a standard finger guard, but grip security is enhanced through the ergonomically textured grip made from thermocell plastic. Case

The blade cover for the H1 is an injected zytel case that offers an improved, safe and strong combination of properties that should satisfy all users. The case can be operated with one hand and is very easy to keep clean.

Steel

The blade is made of a special stainless steel called Lam. CoS (Laminated Cobalt Special Steel). After using this steel for many years we can conclude that it is a very well balanced and economical steel. It has a fine balance between sharpness and durability, but is still relatively easy to sharpen. It is hardened and tempered to 60 HRC, a hardness we found ideal for this steel in terms of sharpness and strength.

Blade operation

The special design of the H1 blade is for processing game while hunting. The H1 knife may look different but it works very well. In many ways the performance of a knife depends on the person actually holding the knife. Knowing where and how to place the right cut in the game is beyond the knife. Hunters must avoid bad cuts, keep hair off the meat, prevent slicing of organs, and minimize blood flowing to the game and the hunter. The combination of a skilled hunter and a well-designed knife is unbeatable! The cuts are well placed, the game is kept clean and there are no unnecessary cuts to the meat or organs.

Blade design

The Fallkniven H1 looks like an optimal hunting knife. We think the perfect hunting blade length is about four to five inches, not the short two inch blades often sold to hunters. The H1 hunting knife is close in design to a professional butcher knife. The proper blade length must be combined with a blade shape that provides a long, effective paring edge and, most importantly, a tip that is properly shaped for penetrating performance, because a hunting knife must work well along the edge and on the edge. The tip of the H1 hunting knife is designed to aid in skinning by penetrating the skin without cutting the meat.
